Morrisville State College is one of the leading colleges in the area in regards to offering opportunities for hands on work experience for their students. Every year, their CITA 405 class takes on a real world project, which constitutes course credit.
This year, Morrisville State and the Onondaga County Soil & Water Conservation District (OCSWCD) are working together to re-construct the District’s web-site. The students work together in choosing their own Project Manager, assign responsibilities, and ensure that deadlines are met. This class allows students to polish their leadership skills, professional development and public speaking skills.
The team will periodically hold meetings with the project sponsor to present the work that has been done. They will also have the opportunity to present to the OCSWCD’s board of directors for approval.
At the end of the project, the sponsor will attend a banquet where the web-site will be officially presented and approved.
OCSWCD currently staffs Morrisville graduates, and have given internships to Morrisville students. We at OCSWCD hope that through this project, both organizations will be able to enhance and continue a lasting relationship, benefiting not only each organization, but more importantly that of the student.
