(Syracuse, NY – Sept. 17, 2011) On Sept. 16, David M. Troch, 36, of 113 Heathwood Road, Camillus was arrested by the New York State Police – Syracuse for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana after he was stopped for disobeying a traffic control device when he entered a restricted area (the tandem lot at the Thompson Road, interchange – exit 35 of the Thruway).

Troch was released to appear in the Town of DeWitt court Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.

(Albany, NY – Aug. 10, 2011) Canal Splash! kicks off Friday, Aug. 12, with a weekend-long celebration of attractions, events and activities available along the 524-mile-long New York State Canal system.

The 6th Annual Canal Splash! Aug. 12-13-14 at multiple locations will include nature walks, bike rides, educational exhibits, boating events, musical performances and tours.

The three-day event is co-sponsored by the Canal Corporation, Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, and Parks & Trails New York.

Canal Corporation Director Brian U. Stratton said, “The Erie Canal is a not only a historic site that should be maintained for commerce and economic development, but also a source of pride for New Yorkers who enjoy its miles of parks, trails and boating.”

“Canal Splash! offers activities for New Yorkers of all ages including numerous fun and educational opportunities while also encouraging physical activity,” Stratton said. “The Canal Corporation is pleased to continue its partnership with the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and Parks and Trails New York to build upon the success of this annual event.”

Beth Sciumeca, executive director of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor, said, “We invite New Yorkers to come out and enjoy our world renown canal system and hometown hospitality during Canal Splash! After nearly two centuries, the canal is still a magnet for travelers and summer activity and our canal towns are still welcoming visitors whether they come by boat, bicycle or car.”

Robin Dropkin, executive director of Parks and Trails New York, said, “Canal Splash! highlights all the interesting and fun things there are to do along the Canal System, and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Between the museums, historic sites, cultural activities, and the Canalway Trail, there is something for all ages and interests.”

Towpath Day – Camillus

“Step Back” into the canal era, celebrating canal circus boats and more. A 5K Mule Skinner walk/ run will open the festivities followed by a day of demonstrations, crafts, music, kids stuff, steam engine exhibit, boat and wagon rides. Activities for all ages.

Futile Thunder at Fort Stanwix National Monument – Rome

The siege continues, because of the miscalculation of the Americans’ abilities and their determination to defend the fort, the British besieged it with undersized artillery. Discover how the British adapted to this problem and still attempted to conduct a successful siege during this one-hour demonstration led by the Oneida Indian Nation First Allies group and park staff. Cannon firings occur throughout this demonstration.

Erie Canal cruise through a 100-year-old lock — Herkimer

Ninety-minute narrated lock-through cruise on the Historic Erie Canal aboard Lil’ Diamond II. Specialty shopping and waterfront dining are also available at the Gems Along the Mohawk Complex.

Bike & Kayak Tours at Schoharie Crossing Site – Fort Hunter

(Oneida, NY – June 20, 2011) On June 19,2011 the New York State Police conducted an Underage ID enforcement detail in the Towns of Elbridge, Skaneateles, Camillus, Marcellus and Geddes including the Villages of Jordan, Elbridge, Skaneateles and Marcellus in Onondaga County.

As part of the initiative 10 tavern/bars and 9 retail establishments serving or selling alcohol within this area were checked for their compliance with the laws of the State of New York relative to prohibiting sales of alcohol to persons under the age of 21.

As a result of the operation two people were charged by the New York State Police for the sale of alcohol to persons under the age of twenty-one.

Charged with one count each of Unlawfully dealing with a child in the first degree (PL 260.20) and Prohibited sales of alcohol to a person under 21 (ABC 65-1) was:

(Central New York – June 2011) For the 25th consecutive year, the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run will pass through the highways of Central New York.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run features officers and athletes from agencies within the Central New York area, carrying the Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics New York Summer Games, which will be held in Utica on June 10 and 11.

The cauldron will be lit promptly at 8pm on Friday, June 10 by retired New York State Trooper Arthur Ellis at Utica College Gaetano Stadium.

The Torch Run is the largest grass roots fundraiser for Special Olympics New York, which serves supports the year round training and athletic competition of more than 51,000 athletes in 22 sports, the Young Athletes Program, and the Motor Activities Training Program. All programs and events are free to athletes and there is no admission charge for the general public.

The Torch Run, which is organized and run by law enforcement officers from across the state, has historically raised more than $5 million in support of Special Olympics athletes. The partnership between law enforcement and Special Olympics has created an everlasting bond that is based on mutual respect and admiration. In support of athletes, law enforcement officers are willing to run long distances in scorching heat and in driving rain, plunge into freezing cold lakes, wait tables for tips at area restaurants, pull fire trucks and even rappel from the top of extremely tall buildings.

The Flame of Hope began its journey in May, and has journeyed through all regions of the state. The 25^th Anniversary Central Region Torch Run will cross through Central New York streets (primarily on NY Route 5) on June 8 through June 10. Runners will be formally escorted by local police agencies as well as Rural/Metro ambulance throughout the route.

The general public, business owners, and general supporters of the Special Olympics movement are invited to line the streets as the Flame of Hope passes by.

Special Olympics New York provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community. From a backyard summer camp for people with intellectual disabilities to a global movement, Special Olympics has been using the power of sports to help athletes change their lives for more than 40 years.

(Cicero, NY – June 2011) Save the Date for the 5th Annual Lifesaver Blood Drive and Health Fair to be held from noon until 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 19 at Gillette Road Middle School, 6150 South Bay Road, Cicero.

“It has become one of the biggest blood drives in Central New York, in which blood donations during each of the past four years have exceeded 100 pints. Considering an average drive produces about 30 pints, this number is significant. For this reason, and with the urging of Red Cross officials, I determined that this event, which was started by Al Stirpe, is far too important to our community to end,” said Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli.

As a matter of fact, blood donations during this time decrease by 10 to 15 percent, while need escalates because of increased outdoor work and recreational activities.

Exciting news about the CNY Veterans Parade!

The CNY Veterans Parade is moving to the New York State Fairgrounds at noon, Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 and will be accompanied by a veterans’ themed EXPO at the Center of Progress Building.

Assemblyman Magnarelli donated an American Flag to be displayed at Canton Woods Senior Center in Van Buren. Senator John DeFrancisco donated a New York State Flag. The Mayor of Baldwinsville, Joseph Saraceni, acted as master of ceremonies.

Assemblyman Magnarelli was a guest server at Crouse Hospital’s employee appreciation picnic.

Assemblyman Magnarelli visited Miss Armani’s first grade class at Solvay Elementary to help instill the importance and fun of reading.

The Centers at St. Camillus recently celebrated a new $3 million expansion for outpatient brain injury and rehabilitation and adult day health programs. The expansion, named for Honorable William Robert and Sally Roy, will enrich the Central New York community by enabling St. Camillus to care and support our loved ones in times of need.
