(Lysander, NY – Sept. 28, 2011) On Sept. 24 at about 11 p.m. Joseph A. Delia, 17, of Baldwinsville entered the Sunoco A Plus convenience store on Downer Street Road in Baldwinsville to purchase alcohol. Unfortunately for Delia, the New York State Police were conducting an Underage drinker ID enforcement detail at the same place and time.

Delia was identified as being under age 21 by the persons assisting the New York State Police with the enforcement detail. Upon exiting the store with a 12-pack and three six-packs of beer Delia was stopped by Troopers.

It was discovered that Delia had used a forged New York State driver’s license to make the beer purchase. Delia was subsequently charged with one count each of second-degree Criminal Possession of a forged instrument 2nd (PL 170.25), second-degree Criminal Impersonation (PL 190.25), and Unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under 21 years of age (ABC 65-C).

He was processed at SP Lysander and issued an Appearance ticket returnable to the Van Buren Town Court on Oct. 5.

During the ID enforcement initiative seven tavern/bars and 11 retail establishments within the Towns of Clay and Van Buren were checked for their compliance with the laws of the State of New York relative to prohibiting sales of alcohol to persons under the age of twenty-one. All of the listed establishments found to be in compliance with the applicable laws.

(Clay, Syracuse, NY – Sept. 2011) “I Am Arnold” is a compelling and insightful book about Alzheimer’s disease and the Veteran’s Administration. In this remarkable read author Diane Bradshaw shares the story of her husband, Arnold Bradshaw who was a World War II veteran with a 70 percent service-connected disability.

Arnold worked for many years as an Insurance agent and had his own Insurance Company. He and his first wife Virginia had four children and a very happy life. Sadly, she died of a heart attack in 1992. He was a widower for four years and then married Diane, who coincidentally, was a widow for four years herself. She had lost her husband in 1992. Diane was a United Methodist Minister serving in Pennellville. They married in 1996. Arnold came to live in the parsonage with her at that time.

After several years Arnold was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and choices had to be made. This is a book about those choices. The interesting event in this story takes places at their home in Clay and also at the Transitional Care Unit at the Veteran’s Administration Building in Syracuse.

The main characters are the doctors, nurses, social workers, recreational workers, caregiver, physical and occupational therapists, friends and family who were, just like Arnold, the brave and courageous heroes of his battle against Alzheimer’s disease. Readers who are looking for answers in choosing the correct facility for their loved ones will be especially interested in this book. Any person, especially the elderly with age-related degenerative illnesses can relate to Arnold’s journey.

Diane Bradshaw was born in 1934. She is the third of six children. She grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and attended the public schools in her neighborhood. Her neighborhood was a working-poor place. They lived in what was then called “tenement” houses. She lived in a house that had six apartments in it, three on each side. There were always children to play with.

After high school she married her first husband. They had five children, two girls and then three boys. Her husband died in 1992. Four years later, she married Arnold in 1996. Both of them were widowers for four years. Arnold suffered Alzheimer’s disease for half of their marriage and this book is about that crucial time in their lives.

The book is published by AuthorHouse.

(Town of Clay, NY – Aug. 28, 2011) Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that deputies are investigating crash involving two pickup trucks.

At approximately 6:52pm, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of Northern Boulevard and East Taft Road where a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, operated by Daniel Dupra, (17), of 320 Church Street in North Syracuse, crashed into a 2005 Ford F350 pickup truck, operated by William Perrigo, (37), of 275 South Collingwood Avenue, Syracuse.

Witnesses stated that Dupra was traveling south on Northern Boulevard when he ran the red light at the intersection of East Taft Road. Dupra’s S-10 crashed into the passenger side of Perrigo’s F350, who was traveling west on East Taft Road and proceeded to cross the intersection.

Impact from the crash caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

Rescue crews from the North Syracuse Fire Department responded to the scene and ambulances from EAVES, NAVAC, and Rural Metro were called to transport five patients to local hospitals.

Injured were Dupra and his teenaged passenger Zachary Crossman (age and address not available). Dupra was transported to Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital with nonlife threatening injuries and Crossman was transported to University Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Perrigo and passengers Madison Perrigo, (12) and Tara Hemmingway, (19), of Syracuse, sustained non-life threatening injuries and were also transported to University Hospital.

Deputies issued Dupra traffic tickets for passing a red light and speeding.

(Aug. 19, 2011) Assemblyman Sam Roberts (D,WF-Syracuse), a key sponsor of legislation creating the Greater Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (Chapter 463 of 2011), announced its signing into law by the governor. An unpaid eleven-member regional board will oversee the new authority which includes Syracuse Hancock International Airport. Hancock Airport was previously controlled by the Syracuse Mayor and was, up until now, the only major airport in the state not operated by an authority.

“Allowing Syracuse Hancock International Airport to increase its competitive edge will not only help reduce airport operating costs, but also has the potential to boost Central New York’s economy by attracting new services and airlines in the future,” said Roberts.

Out of the eleven regional board members, seven are appointed by the Syracuse Mayor and one appointed by each the Onondaga County executive, the DeWitt Town Board and the East Syracuse-Minoa School District. The North Syracuse Central School District and the town boards of Salina, Cicero and Clay each take turns appointing the last member.

Monroe County Airport Authority, established in 1989, is an example of an airport authority benefiting a community. Since then, it has been able to deliver nationally-recognized affordability by bringing increased competition from low-cost carriers, such as AirTran Airways, to airports like the Greater Rochester International Airport (GRIA). Additionally, the average air fare at the GRIA has dropped more than $100 since 1995, as reported by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

“An adjusted focus on our air transportation facilities along with stronger local input from the new regional board will provide a great service for Central New York, yielding better decisions to benefit the entire region rather than a single municipality.” Roberts concluded.

(Town of Clay, NY – Aug. 5, 2011) Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that a Syracuse man has been charged in connection with the death investigation of Herman Tolbert.

Herman Tolbert, Jr., 23, of 4977 Moses Drive, has been charged with second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree burglary and first-degree unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is accused of causing the death of his father Herman Tolbert, 68, of 4977 Moses Drive in the Town of Clay.

Last evening at approximately 10:45pm, Sheriff’s deputies and rescue crews responded to the Tolbert residence where Mrs. Lila Tolbert discovered her husband unresponsive on the floor. Paramedics pronounced Tolbert dead at the scene, and deputies quickly discovered evidence that someone had forced their way into the home.

Sheriff’s Detectives were called to conduct a complete investigation and began canvassing neighbors while evidence technicians processed the scene.

Working with the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office, it was determined that Tolbert died from a stab wound.

Detectives began following up on several leads which helped identify Tolbert’s estranged son Herman Tolbert Jr., as a potential suspect. Detectives spend most of the morning working with family members in attempt to locate Tolbert Jr., who ultimately turned himself in.

Tolbert Jr. is alleged to have forced his way into his parent’s home sometime after 8:30 pm while his mother was shopping. Detectives further allege that Tolbert Jr. engaged in an altercation with his father and immediately fleeing from the residence in his father’s pickup truck.

Tolbert, Jr. will be arraigned in Town of Clay Court this evening and the case will be turned over to the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office for further review and prosecution.

Murder in the 2nd degree is a class A-1 felony, burglary in the 1st degree is a class B felony, criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in the 1st degree are both class D felonies.
