Evans Mills woman arrested for leaving kids alone

(Watertown, NY – Aug. 23, 2011) The State Police in Watertown arrested Angelica M. Abell, 28, of 26793 Libby Lane, Evans Mills on two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Class A Misdemeanor.

The arrest stems from a check the welfare of the defendant’s 4 and 5 year old children being left alone for more than two hours at their residence.

Jefferson County Child Protective Services assisted with this case.

Subject was issued an appearance ticket to return to town of Leray Court Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.

 

 

Police Seek Publics Help with Burglary

(Town of Leray, NY – April 29, 2011) The State Police in Watertown are requesting the publics assistance in the investigation of a home burglary where a large amount of jewelry, coins and a handgun were stolen.

The burglary occurred at 29588 County Route 46 in the Town of Leray, near Evans Mills, sometime between April 15 and April 24. Some of the unique items that were taken were gold and silver pocket watches, a Kinneys 100th anniversary gold watch, 1987 Indian River class ring, four Zippo lighters with engraving and a large amount of misc jewelry. Coin collectibles were also taken, which included 12 silver dollars, a state quarter collection and various other coins.

Anyone who believes they may have information in this case is asked to please contact The State Police at 782-2112. Information can remain confidential. There is a reward being offered for any information that leads to conviction in this case.

Fatal Snowmobile accident in the Town of Theresa

(Town of Theresa, NY – Nov. 23, 2010) On Dec. 23 at around 1 p.m. Nicholas O. Sherwood of 25360 Route16, Evans Mills was the lead sled of three. He was operating a 2002 Yamaha SX Viper westbound in the town of Theresa on an old railroad bed used by snow sleds and four-wheelers.

Sherwood came upon a washed out section of the trail at the bottom of a hill. He was unable to stop his sled and run to the top of the hill to stop the other sleds.

At that time, Michael G. Mowery, 35, operating a 2005 Arctic Cat crested the hill at a high rate of speed. Mowery’s sled struck the parked Yamaha ejecting him over the handle bars and landing head first into an earth embankment.

The operator of the third sled, Robert L. Derouin II, then arrived on the scene and assisted Sherwood with providing medical treatment to Mowery.

Mowery was transported by Guilfoyle Ambulance to River Hospital where he was pronounced as deceased at about 2 p.m. by RPA C. Tontarski.

Assisting at the scene were Theresa, Plessis and Redwood fire departments, along with Guilfoyle and Indian River ambulances.

Man Arrested for Unlawful Surveillance

(Fort Drum, NY – Dec. 17, 2010) The State Police in Watertown arrested 63 year old Brian M. Murphy of 30261 Route 37 Evans Mills for one count of second-degree Unlawful Surveillance.

The investigation found that Murphy had set up and concealed a video camera in the bathroom of the Shopette located at 11005 Iraqi Freedom Drive on the Fort Drum Military Installation to video tape unknowing persons for short periods on Dec. 14 and 17.

He was arraigned in the Town of Leray Court and is awaiting possible Grand Jury action. This investigation was conducted jointly with Fort Drum CID and MP.

Man Charged with Reckless Endangerment

(Carthage, NY – Dec. 6, 2010) On Oct. 28, 2010 at approximately 3:50 p.m. Marilyn Johnson, 32, of 2640 Anabel Ave., Evans Mills alleged that a male came out of Rite Aid on Canal Street in Carthage and slammed his car door into her car door.

Johnson stated she confronted the man about hitting her car. Johnson stated she bent over and got his plate number as he was backing out and then the man drove at her in an attempt to run her over and she had to run out of his way.

The license plate came back to Jeffrey Roose, 50, of 9442 State Route 812 Croghan NY. Roose stated he did not drive his vehicle toward or try to hit anyone.

Information was submitted to village of Carthage court and a Criminal summons was issued for reckless endangerment.

Roose is to appear in Village of Carthage court on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.

(Watertown, NY – Dec. 6, 2010) The State Police in Watertown arrested William A. Stevens, 18, of 36746 Anable Ave., Evans Mills, NY for one count of third-degree Criminal Trespass, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Stevens was found in the construction equipment holding area for the Fort Drum connector project with three juveniles on Dec. 3, 2010 at about 6 p.m.

Additionally charged were three juveniles aged 15, 15, and 13. The three juveniles were arrested for third-degree Criminal Trespass, fourth-degree Criminal Mischief and third-degree Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

The Criminal Mischief and Unauthorized Use arrests stem from a five-month investigation into which fire extinguishers were discharged into several construction vehicles and heavy equipment was moved. Total damage approximately $320.

All parties were issued Appearance Tickets and released to their parents pending court action.

The state Police is still investigating the damage of several pieces of construction equipment from the Fort Drum connector road project located near Anable Ave. Evans Mills during the July-August 2010 time frame in which approximately $30,000-$40,000 worth of lights, windshields, and mirrors were damaged.

Anyone with any information regarding this crime are asked to call the State Police Watertown BCI at 782-3691. Case agent Inv Randy S. Pound, Troopers James Eichorn, Dominic Doldo, and Emerson Lyndaker.
