Belleville Henderson Students Take Boston Field Trip

(Henderson, NY – July 2011) Students from Belleville Henderson Central School took a field trip to Boston for three days; they are seen here on the Lexington Green with their tour guide “Paul Revere.”

The trip was coordinated by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County which has created an Extended School Day Program at the school in order to offer extra learning opportunities for youth.

Thirty-six teens grades 9-11 attended the trip. Students had the opportunity to spend a day in Plymouth touring the Mayflower and Plymouth Plantation, a day in Boston on the Freedom Trail and Quincy Market, and a day in Lexington and Concord touring the Revolutionary War Battlefields.

State Police Investigate Unconscious Male on Tractor

(Watertown, NY - July 29, 2011) The State Police in Watertown were dispatched to Bishop Street Road just north of Sand Street in the town of Henderson for the report of a farm tractor that had run off the road and the operator inside was unconscious.

The investigation revealed that 59-year-old Robert Hatch of 17573 County Route 189, Adams was an employee of Deer Run Dairy LLC and was operating an enclosed cab Case International farm tractor, towing a Myers manure spreader North on Bishop Street Road and exited the east shoulder of the roadway.

The tractor and trailer traveled approximately 100 yards through brush and subsequently entered a swampy area and became buried in the mud. A citizen in the area spotted the tractor and observed Hatch unconscious still in the cab.

911 was contacted and Smithville Fire Department responded and began CPR.

Hatch was transported to Samartian Medical Center and was pronounced deceased. The Initial investigation reveals that Hatch possibly had a medical emergency prior to the tractor leaving the roadway.

The tractor was recovered with the assistance of several local farmers.

The investigation is continuing. The State Police were assisted at the scene by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the Smithville Fire Department.
