Animal Cruelty Arrest Made

(Carthage, NY) On March 30, 2011 New York State Police in Carthage arrested 24-year-old Justin Williams from Calcium for Cruelty to an Animal under the New York State Agricultural and Markets Law.

Williams allegedly threw a 2-year-old, Black Lab mix dog off a 15 foot riverbank in the Town of Le Ray, into the Black River. The dog was able to get out of the river downstream, and back onto dry land where a passerby found it and notified the Fort Drum Game Warden’s Office.

Williams was issued an Appearance Ticket to appear in the Town of Le Ray Court on April 4, 2011.

Fort Drum Youths Arrested for Sale of Controlled Substance

(Carthage, NY – Feb. 18, 2011) State Police in Carthage arrested two Fort Drum youths on one count of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Police say on Feb. 17, a 16-year-old resident of 6451B Winterhaven Dr. gave prescription medication, a schedule II (1) controlled substance known as Oxycodone to a 16-year-old resident of 6238B Scotch Pine Dr. on school grounds and was discovered by school officials to be in possession of the Oxycodone.

The first youth was arraigned before Town of Champion Court, Justice Dennis Quinn and remanded to the Jefferson County Public Safety Building with bail set at $2,500 bail, pending Grand Jury action.

State Police in Watertown investigate car/pedestrian accident

(Watertown, NY - July 01, 2010) On July 1 at approximately 2:03 am, Jefferson County 911 dispatched Troopers to a car pedestrian personal injury auto accident at the intersection of State Route 283 and LaFave Road, Town of Leray.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Daniel D. Kahnell, 20, was south bound on Route 283, operating a 1993 Dodge pick-up truck. Kahnell, unable to take evasive action, struck pedestrian Ryan J. Converse, 21, of 26273 Route 283, Watertown who was standing in the center of the south bound lane of travel.

Troopers arrived and initiated life saving measures, which were subsequently turned over to EMS from the Black River Ambulance Service. Converse was transported to SMC hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Calcium and North Pole fire departments, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

There are no apparent contributing factors on behalf of the motor vehicle operator.

The investigation is continuing.
